Honoring the 2000 Troy Softball State Champions

The sun blazed high over Trojan Field, casting a golden glow on a scene filled with nostalgia. Families, friends, and fans gathered beneath the warm Texas sky which felt fitting for a spring evening steeped in celebration. Former teammates embraced, some for the first time in years. It was more than a ceremony; it was a homecoming, a tribute to a team that left its mark. On Tuesday evening, Troy ISD honored the legacy of the 2000 State Softball Champions.
Championship team members in attendance included Megan Brown Cannon, Kaylie Sulak Stroud, Lauren Arther Hill, Holly Carothers Moore, Maria Pugliese Mendoza, Sara Weir Setzer, Alyssa Miller Ketcham, Johanna Ellis Mitchell, Lori Wolf Negron, Amanda Garcia, Lauren McMurtry Tucker, and coach Tanya Corbett Willingham.
“What’s really cool is to see how the game has evolved,” said Megan Brown Cannon. “The facilities have improved, and there’s more investment in girls' softball than when we started. So that’s really exciting!”
“It’s so exciting to be back with the state championship team,” shared Tanya Corbett Willingham. “I was a young coach at the time, so to see these girls grow into who they are today is just inspiring. It was a great group to work with, and making it to state with them was unforgettable.”
As the legacy and 25th anniversary of the 2000 champions continues to inspire, the current Trojanette softball team is making waves of their own this season with a strong start. With upgraded facilities thanks to the 2019 bond and a growing program, there’s never been a better time to support our athletes. We invite the community to come out, catch a game, and see how the foundation laid by past champions continues to shape the future of Trojanette softball!
