Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third-grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. Once your child reaches a minimum of 8 to 10 unexcused absences within a six month period, you/your student will be asked to take a Truancy Prevention Course in an attempt to avoid going to Truancy Court and prevent Truancy charges from being filed on you and/or your child.
