Students and Staff Recognized by VFW Post 10377
Three Troy High School students and three Raymond Mays Middle School students were recently recognized by VFW Post 10377 for their achievements in essay programs that promote patriotism and civic responsibility. The post is dedicated to fostering patriotism and investing in future generations.
Voice of Democracy Winners
The high school students participated in the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program, which provides an opportunity for students to express their views on democratic and patriotic themes through recorded essays. This year’s theme was “Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?” The following students were recognized:
- Jacob Ward – 1st Place
- Madilyn Strait – 2nd Place
- Jody Thigpen – 3rd Place
Patriot's Pen Winners
Three middle school students were honored for their participation in the Patriot’s Pen essay program, which encourages young writers to explore America’s history and their personal experiences in today’s society. This year’s theme was “My Voice in America’s Democracy.” The following students were recognized:
- Isabella Ware – 1st Place
- Emma Hoffmann – 2nd Place
- Tatum Pratt – 3rd Place
Raymond Mays Middle School history teacher Bethany Tucker was honored with the VFW Post’s 2024-2025 Smart/Maher National Citizenship Education Teacher Award. This program recognizes educators who promote interest in American history, traditions, civic responsibility, and patriotism.
Jacob Ward, Isabella Ware, and Bethany Tucker will now advance to the district-level competition. District winners will progress to the state level, with the opportunity to compete nationally for scholarships of up to $35,000.
