Spotlight on Gary McMurtry: Preparing Leaders for Tomorrow’s Texas
As part of our celebration of School Board Recognition Month, Troy ISD is proud to highlight the dedicated service of Gary McMurtry, a long-serving member of the Troy ISD Board of Trustees. His inspiring journey exemplifies the theme of this year’s celebration, "Leadership for Tomorrow’s Texas."
What inspired you to serve on the school board, and how does that tie into your vision for Texas' future?
The Troy ISD Board of Trustees was seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy in the 1980’s. At that time, I was active in the Troy community, our church, and attended many of the activities in the school. I was inspired to offer my time to learn how to be an effective Board member to support the students of Troy ISD in any way that was needed through Board action. That has a direct impact on my vision, not for Texas’ future, but the future of every student that walks the halls of a Troy campus- to be successful anywhere in the world. I am still willing to learn how to be an effective Board member and I continue to strive to always support the students of Troy ISD.
His dedication reminds us of the influence school board members have in shaping educational experiences that prepare students for their futures. We thank Gary McMurtry for his years of service and commitment to excellence and the success of Troy ISD students.
