Troy High School Robotics Team headed to State
The Troy High School robotics team recently competed in the B.E.S.T. Robotics Competition, which stands for Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology. Showcasing their engineering and marketing skills at the Temple BEST HUB competition, which challenges students to design and build a robot capable of completing real-world tasks while creating a marketing strategy to "sell" their product to potential investors.
This year's theme, Low G, tasked students with designing a robot to aid in colonizing the moon. The robot needed to clear moon debris, repair satellite antennas, collect core samples, maintain solar panels, and move habitat modules. In addition to engineering the robot, students created a detailed marketing presentation that included their company's brand, mission statement, budget, robot specifications, and performance capabilities. The team also designed a trade show-style exhibit booth to engage judges and visitors with their innovative solutions.
Over the course of just eight weeks, the robotics team:
- Designed, built, and programmed their robot to complete lunar tasks.
- Presented a polished marketing pitch to a panel of judges.
- Developed a professional exhibit booth to showcase their work.
- Submitted a comprehensive engineering notebook documenting their design process.
At the Temple B.E.S.T. Hub competition, Troy High School placed in multiple categories:
- Best Software Design
- Top Robot Award
- 2nd Place in the Overall B.E.S.T. Award, which evaluates performance across all competition categories.
Competing against seasoned programs from Lorena, Academy, and Salado, Troy High School came out on top as 1st place in the medium-sized school, securing their spot at the UIL State Competition in Dallas!
The state competition will be held December 5–7 at Fair Park.
We’re incredibly proud of our robotics team for their hard work and their dedication. Their journey to state represents a significant achievement for Troy High School, and we can't wait to see how they perform. Go Trojans!
